Candidates Pledge to Support Nonprofits; Also Promise Never to Kick Puppies
Robert Egger, the founder and president of the DC Central Kitchen, which trains the unemployed in the culinary arts, has been bird-dogging presidential candidates in Iowa and New Hampshire to get them to pledge, on camera, their support for nonprofits should they be elected. Naturally, they’re all saying yes. It’s a very noble effort, though campaigning politicians say no to precisely nothing, so Mr. Egger and all in the nonprofit world should take their remarks with the tiniest grain of sodium chloride. Stick a camera in a candidate’s face and ask him if he’d support legalizing crystal meth in preschool and even the most ardent law-and-order pol would say he’d study the issue and get back to you. | 501(c)

Hey, Tdurso…if you check it out, you’ll see that some said a WHOLE lot more than “I heart nonprofits.” Some proposed bold new strategies to elevate the strength of the sector, including opening something similar to a small business association for the sector.
Sometimes, Tdurso…it pays to try something new.

THIS is how it will happen–in every election, in every city.

Thanks for stopping by, Robert. Believe me, I’m on your side. I’m just not sure the candidates are. But I wish you nothing but luck.
